I live in South Africa. And if you live in South Africa and you have any contact with people from the US or Canada you might have run into a question about wildlife like lions and elephants roaming our streets. Most South Africans get pretty offended by questions like this. We are a civilized country, our large and dangerous wildlife gets contained in properly fenced parks.
I use to get offended by this until I visited a few places in Canada and realized that the reason why you ask is that some of your large and dangerous wildlife does simply roam the countryside and sometimes make excursions into town.
This honestly blew my mind. What do you mean, you have bears just walking around? What the hell?
north americans don’t all encounter deadly megafauna on our porches and front lawns but it happens often enough that we all think this is a reasonable amount of gigantic animal to happen to your house. so when we think of africa we kinda imagine it like this:
like. if we had elephants here. this is what we would be putting up with on the regular. what do you mean you guys are more sensible than us.
TELL ME AGAIN HOW AUSTRALIA IS THE DEATH COUNTRY We have two spiders and (apparently) 12 snakes but we don’t have lions, bears, wildcats, AND crocodiles. We sometimes have crocodiles and large boas in certain areas. We don’t have to worry about a bear attacking our halloween decor. Or moose deciding to joust on the front lawn.
Maybe similar to Africa, America’s fear of Australia is because you all assume our wildlife is exactly as huge and space-invadey.

I live halfway between two large cities in a pretty damn suburban area and hearing the sentence “did you hear there was a bear* spotted on [road that is pretty built up and I don’t think of as wild at all]” only left me a little surprised. My mother once saw what she described as a coyote going to school- just walking around a university campus.
so…. yes I was absolutely picturing elephants reaching over your back yard fences for some tasty leaves.

Couple years ago we had a bear in the market of downtown Ottawa. Ottawa has a population of 1 million, and it made it to the largest market (byward), and had to be removed with sedatives.
yeah, like. the US is big. a lot of it is much wilder than you think.

how exactly are you supposed to STOP a moose or a bear from just walking around
but yeah, part of it is just… the country is very large, animals are all over it, it’s probably not cost-effective to try to stop this.

I don’t think you can fully understand transmisogyny without understanding how it’s weaponized against cis Black women.
When you find a transmisogynist you’ve found a racist who will use their ideals of the “normative female body” to demean and denigrate Black women. For years it was a popular right wing rumor/conspiracy/dick move to refer to Michelle Obama as a “tranny” and more recently sports organizations have repeatedly excluded cis Black women for not having “normative” hormone levels. Transmisogyny and antiblackness go hand in hand.
Racist white trans women love misconstruing this post by claiming that this post suggests, implies or explicitly states that cis (Black) women are experts over trans women on the experience of transmisogyny, or should be the main focus of our analysis of transmisogyny over trans women. I never said this.
TERFs love misconstruing this post by claiming that this post suggests, implies or explicitly states that Black women are masculine or the same as men. You know this is a lie with no basis in my original post that you’re conveniently telling.
All this very short, very simple, very direct and very explicit post means is that white supremacist patriarchy racializes and genders Black women as outside of ‘normative’ (white) womanhood through what feminist Maria Lugones referred to as “the coloniality of gender,” and that there’s a direct connection between the degendering of trans women and the degendering of Black women as they are done by the same exact people policing the same boundaries of gender.
You can refuse to see the connections between transmisogyny and misogynoir if you want but that wouldn’t change the facts - that discrimination, gendered violence and murder are disproportionately directed towards cis and trans Black women and that both groups are excluded by settler colonial capitalist-imperialist patriarchy from the category of womanhood.
Why are trans women and Black women excluded from womanhood under the logics of biological difference? Who is doing either exclusion? It’s primarily men and their handmaidens in the patriarchy who came up with the ideology of biological difference to justify and naturalize the relations of patriarchy and racism.
I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this but reactionaries and patriarchs share in common their beliefs of racial supremacy and transmisogyny. The same people discriminating against and killing trans women are the same discriminating against and killing Black women. It’s literally the same exact people, just look at Florida for fucks sake. Florida is advancing white supremacy and transphobia and transmisogyny at the same exact time. White supremacists and religious conservatives are racist and transphobic and transmisogynist. These are not coincidences.
